Herpes is an unfortunate virus to have to deal with, and as of yet, science has yet to find a true cure for it. This means that once you get it, you live with it for life. Or do you? What is your definition of cure? If to you it means living a normal life again, free from outbreaks and symptoms, then herpes can be cured. For the first 18 years of my life, I didn’t have to worry about whether or not I had health coverage. My dad had a good job with good benefits and we were more than taken care of. At age 18, however, the benefits changed. I could still be covered, but I would have to pay part of the premium myself. At the time, it was no big deal. But what it showed me was how the world is a vastly different place when the responsibilities begin to mount. Paying for part of my medical insurance was a big step for me; one that I’m glad my father made me take.

When the company I work for announced at our monthly meeting that we could now contribute to a cafeteria plan the reaction was positive. I felt pretty dumb because I didn’t understand what it was. They sent us home with a packet that explained the benefits and I read it completely over the weekend. I understand the benefit of cafeteria plan tax savings but I am not sure exactly how it would affect things like my social security and medicare accounts. If I am understanding this correctly the amount paid into those funds would be decreased if I enroll in a cafeteria plan. I need to have my accountant help me with this one.
