I can remember when thee were just a few stores in our town that were not local. Now when I walk through our mall I see the same stores here that I see in any other mall. And now a fair amount of the stores have discounts as part of their name. It seems to be a trend that I like that no pays full price any more. While I am not much of a shopper I tend to spend more time in a store if I think that I am getting a good deal. And spending more time usually translates to more money.

We just bought a new house…quite exciting. Moving in is certainly a lot of work, but it’s fun to ‘decorate’ and create our new environment. One thing that this home has that our previous one didn’t have is a fireplace with a mantelin the family room. When I was thinking about what to put on the mantel, I happened to be flipping through a magazine and saw some clocks mantel. Perfect! There was quite a selection to choose from, wooden mantel clocks, brass mantel clocks, antique mantel clocks, chiming mantel clocks, and more! After looking them all over, we chose a chiming mantel clock that looked like it would fit with our decor. Not only does the clock look great, but it has wonderful chimes that really add to the atmosphere of our family room. We have a choice of the Westminster chimes or the Bim Bam chimes…we’ll have to give each a try to see which one we prefer. That being decided, it’s time to move onto the kitchen…more decisions to make!

I’m always fascinated by the politics of farming. The American myth has always been of the small independent family farmer out there who fights against the tide to preserve a unique way of life. Politicians always use this image when they talk about farming, politics, and giving lots of money away. When I read blogs about farm politics, it seems that this is never the case. Most farmers own huge tracts of land now and just keep owning more. Farming is very expensive and not cost effective so they only way to make it profitable is with government money and on a large scale. The family farm seemed to have died a long time ago according to many of the websites I read it just seems that most people forgot to tell the politicians. Or if they did, the politicians just didn’t listen.
