Another 7 Useful Tips – Heartburn and Causes Of Indigestion

Accurate heartburn information is not always easy to find on the Internet.

I struggled to find a reliable source myself, so I decided to collate some tips for you, along with other relevant causes of indigestion information.

I hope that you find them both useful and interesting. I certainly found it fun trying to track all that Heartburn research down!

Tip #1

There are an abundance of histamine antagonists on the market today; most are even available for purchase over the counter without the need for a prescription.  Most have heard of Tagamet, Zantac, Axid, and Pepcid which are all available at most grocery and drug stores.  If these do not work in the beginning it is probably worth your time to visit your doctor and see if an extra strength histamine antagonist is available to you.

Tip #2

It is worth cutting back on tomato based foods like chilli, pasta and pizza sauces with tomatoes in it as tomatoes are known to cause an increase in stomach acids, which in turn can trigger heartburn and GERD symptoms.

Tip #3

The discomfort caused by acid reflux happens because acidic contents burn the esophagus and causes irritation in the. This is a chronic disease, which can have life long repercussions and requires regular medication. Young children may grow out of it.

Tip #4

If you suffer more from the heartburn portion of acid reflux disease one answer may be the use of proton pump inhibitors.  Most people have seen or heard an advertisement for Prilosec, a proton pump inhibitor that helps with fighting off acid reflux disease.  Proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec with blocking the production of acid and secretions of acid into the stomach.  The beauty of a proton pump inhibitor is that it works for a considerably longer amount of time than an antacid.

Tip #5

The term acid reflux is actually a popular term for the term, GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease, which is also commonly referred to as GERD.  This disease, acid reflux, is a condition where the stomach regurgitates a liquid substance into the esophagus causing damage or discomfort in the individual.  While acid reflux isn’t potentially fatal or even life threatening, it can cause a decent amount of discomfort for the inflicted individual.

Tip #6

If you must eat at a fast food restaurant even though it is best avoided if you suffer with acid reflux, then choose their grilled options, like grilled chicken. The most inappropriate choices are fries and burgers.  In addition, fried chicken is not that great for you as well.

Tip #7

Everyone loves a big and hearty meal, but the traditional American Family dinners may not be the best thing for the acid reflux sufferers.  Instead of waiting for a large family meal to send you into the evening or a big lunch to help overcome the rest of the business day, try eating smaller and more frequent meals to alleviate the acid reflux problem.  With less food to distend the stomach and less work required by the stomach for the stomach to be emptied, the chances of an episode of acid reflux occurring will drop considerably.

Hope you found these 7 tips useful, as it’s not always easy to track accurate information down!

The Internet is full of information about Heartburn, but it’s not always easy to find stuff that’s actual useful – especially where Causes Of Indigestion is concerned. I hope that these tips have been.
