In Thai the term friend can mean boyfriend and vice-versa. So be careful and give your girlfriend due credit before you start passing judgment. Thai girls are under a lot of social pressure and are expected to be chaste and modest which is why they often downplay the seriousness of the relationship socially. This is done to avoid losing face in public should the relationship fail. Thus if you are in a relationship with a Thai girl then be sure to over look her calling you as “just her friend” in public, it will be wise to do the same vis-a-vis her.
