Attorney Notary Commission Does Not Expire

November 1st, 2008

When you pass the bar examination and become an attorney, you are now also a notary public.  This means you do not have to take the notary exam the same as the average person does.  Further, unlike with a normal notary public, your notary commission will not expire unless you get disbarred.  The issue most attorneys have is that they need their secretary to be a notary as well.  This is because if they are representing their client, they cannot sign as a notary, too, because it could be construed as conflict of interest.  No attorney wants to be accused of that.
