Keeping Our Kids Safe

It’s tragic that the harshness of today’s society has reached even into our churches.  Unfortunately, as the person who staffs the nurseries for our church, I realize this is all too true.  When people sign up to volunteer with our children they have to sign a paper authorizing us to do a background check on them.  With the public criminal records so readily available, it is easy to have this information at your fingertips in a matter of moments.  I wish I could say we had never had to prevent someone from volunteering, but I can’t.  The fact that we knew ahead of time may have prevented a lawsuit for the church, and more importantly, may have kept a child from harm.
