Nascar Basics

Alright, I have to say I am at a complete loss when it has anything to do with Nascar. I have tried to read the Nascar News but I honestly need someone to sit down and explain this sport to me. Is it all about one race and one major set of racers to watch? Or do different events happen every week at different places across the country? When I read the news it seems like there is so much happening with different races and even different types of vehicles that I am confused on what Nascar even is in the first place.
